Kiwican Week 1 Term 3

To start our session we shared what we did In the holiday. There were some great birthday parties over the holidays - where was my invitation!!!

Today we played a great game where you got to eat chocolate if you threw a six - but you had to move fast and put some of Matua Logan's clothes on.

Our next game was The Battle Royal. Every player had a balloon tied to their ankle and we had to pop them. Keira and Ngawai were the winners.

The Tower of Terror. Each person cut away a bit of flour. The person to knock the jelly bean off has to eat it with no hands. Well done Cleveland and Starlah-Rose.

Stem and leaf graphs in maths.

Today we looked at creating Stem & Leaf graphs in maths. We used dice to create these graphs. Students had to roll their die 50 times and record their data using a tally system (sets of five) . It was great watching our students working together and talking about maths. They were predicting each roll and thinking about what number would or wouldn't be the favourite.

Start of Statistics in maths

Today we started our statistic unit in maths. We have started by looking at simple ways of gathering data. We looked at using our measuring skills and finding out who is the tallest and shortest in our class. Students recorded their data and asked questions, predicted, about who could be the tallest and shortest. Through this we could place students in order and find the median (the number in the middle).

You will get a mini-project every Monday and it is due the following Monday. You can hand it in earlier if you wirsh. This is to be completred in your homework book and you can use a computer or publish by hand. This must be your best work and you need to plan it beofre publishing.

DUE – Monday 2nd August
Your investigation must include information about these questions. You can add extra facts.

1.    Where and when was Edmund Hillary born? Tell me about his up bringing.

3.    Edmund Hillary had triumph and tragedy in the Himalayas. What was Hillary’s tragedy and how did it change his life?

7.    Write one full paragraph on why Sir Edmund Hillary is a great role model for young New Zealanders.

Criteria: Use ONE page in your homework book or use your online Learning Journal. Tell me about the achievements and life of Sir Edmund Hillary. I would like you to tell me about him in your own words. Remember that he has done a lot of things and not just climb Mount Everest.

Presentation is important so have fun. Make the presentation of our work suitable to the subject.

Please do not copy, cut & paste or repeat things that other people have written about him. It makes marking your work very boring and it is cheating!!
By writing your homework in your own words I know that you have read and understood the work.
Have fun and think outside the square!!

Room 7 maths.

We started looking at Measurement today. Today we looked at non-standard units of measuring and made sure we were consistent with our measuring. Joshua and Joe-Sam were very consistent and made sure they showed care with their measuring.

Kiwican Week 9

Our awesome KiwiCan whanau. Cas, Logan and Adele. You guys are awesome. Thanks for the great term.
This week we are working on co-operation. We started by playing the Knot Game. In this game we linked our arms across a circle and had to untangle. It was hard when everyone talked but better when we worked together.
Co-operation is sharing and listening to other people ideas. Talking nicely to each other. Team work.
Our next activity we worked more on co-operation. We had to walk together. Caitlin and Caleb, Cleveland and Pacey were awesome but you couldn't rush or it got messy!
Harshvir was Mr Dufty's buddy and he was awesome!!!!!

Will we earn our 100 pipi points? YES WE CAN!!!!!!!

Tuesday 2 July 2013
