Pluto

Even though poor little Pluto is no longer a planet but a dwarf planet it is still important. Scientist are still debating how Pluto should be classified.

Don't forget that we have our Homework club on Tuesday after school. This is a chance to share with others, use the computers for researching and print stuff off. This is our last homework club for the term.

  1. Why and when was Pluto classified as a dwarf planet? What are the three criteria for being a planet? http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/our-solar-system/56-our-solar-system/planets-and-dwarf-planets/general-questions/229-what-are-the-requirements-for-being-a-planet-beginner
  2. What is the length of one year and one day on Pluto compared to Earth?
  3. Who discovered Pluto?
  4. How many moons does Pluto have?
  5. How did Pluto get its name and who named it?
  6. What is different about how Pluto orbits the sun compare to the other eight planets?
  7. What do scientists believe the surface of Pluto to be like?

A great search engine for your homework.

http://www.safesearchkids.com

When looking for information on each project don't type in the questions into google - you will not find what you are looking for. A search engine (Google) is design to find all the websites which have the words or words you ask it to find. If you type in the word 'Saturn' you will get 128,000,000 possible websites! The the first website is not always the best!

Use a safe kids search and type in the word 'Jupiter'. It will find the best sites to give you information on the planet Mars for students.

Mr Dufty's Rules for a Mini-Project.

• Plan it first!!! Your homework book is for your best publishing.
• Make your presentation fun BUT full of information! Show pride and complete your project with your best presentation. Mr Dufty can tell when you have rushed or haven't finished!! A great piece of presentation has information and pictures.
• Don't copy what you find - write in your own words! This is stealing!!
• Use all the space you have so make it fun and interesting.

Here is a link to a fun quiz site.

Get Mum or Dad to check that you have answered all the questions. Ask them for some help, as they will know lots of stuff!
