Class and Homework. The Industrial Revolution.

Over the next few weeks you are going to investigate the Industrial Revolution. You will look at what it was and how it affected the way we live today. This is a part of your homework – along with your reading and spelling.
This is a chance to prove that you can work independently, are self-motivated and are able to stay on task when needed. You can work with another person outside of school but in class you will be independent.
You will first investigate and find the answers to the question below. You will use two pages in your homework to collect information. Then you will present it as a A4 poster (double sided) for your sample folder.
These are not one word answers so you will need to put some throught into it.
1.       Who could be seen as a pioneer during the Industrial revolution? What did they do and why was it important?
2.       When and why did the Industrial Revolution happen?
3.       Where in the world was the Industrial Revolution seen to develop from (City and Country)?
4.       What was the Industrial Revolution about?
5.       Why was the Industrial Revolution seen as an important event in human history?
6.       What important technological improvements were made during this time?
7.       How did it change society and the way cities were built?
8.       What was a negative aspect of the Industrial Revolution?
9.       What was the biggest change in the way people produced things?
10.   How did children live during this time? Tell me about the rich and poor. How were children used as labour during this time?
11.   Create a VENN diagram and compare a child of the industrial revolution and a child growing up the 2012.

This project is due on Monday 5th November.

What a talented class!!!!!!!

A late thank you to Room 7 for your wonderful effort with our School Production.

Spelling Words Week One Term Four

Welcome to Term 4! Your last term at primary school. This term I have set you a challenge. You must now get your words from this site. As you are inching closer to Intermediate you now need to start being more responsible, self motivated and independent. Be positive and set yourself weekly homework goals.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land among the stars.
Lester Louis Brown
American Journalist

You still have your spelling and reading as homework. You will also have spelling tasks to complete each week. You will need a dictionary to help you.

The more you get tested at home with your spelling the easier it is. The more you read the better you get and the easier spelling becomes.

Task One: Each group has twenty words to learn. Within each group are words that are underlined. You need to find out what these words mean. Remember you might need to find the root word i.e. expensive - look up the word expense and you will find it. Don't guess what it means find its actual meaning. Set it out in your book as below.

Word - Word family - Meaning

Spell - verb - to name, write, or otherwise give the letters, in order, of (a word, syllable, etc.).

Task Two: You then need to write five sentences. Each sentence has at least one word from your list. You can use as many words as you like but you must write five sentences. Remember a sentence has a capital letter and fullstop.

Group A

alto, bacteria, cardinal, colloquial, contraction, dictator, elliptical, exploration, fungi, hydrogen, inverse, mechanics, negative, oxide, Polynesia, ratio, sediment, stratus, tradition, well-being.

Group B
amateur, Atlantic, campaign, closely, convenience, definitely, dutiful, expedition, formula, humorous, locate, mould, parallel, precious, referred, severe, squash, suitability, tickled, worthy.

Group C
ambulance, beam, chapter, crumb, distant, expensive, friendship, hell, irrigation, lizard, mistake, opera, platform, raft, satisfy, slice, strap, toothpaste, unpack, worn.

Group D
adopted, author, boom, chain, criminal, dancing, explain, future, homework, lettuce, motive, niece, nephew, pat, produce, saddle, signal, stole, thus, wake.

Those student who don't complete the homework know the drill! It's not hard!

We learn wisdom from failure much more than success. We often discover what we WILL do, by finding out what we will NOT do.

An Amazing Presentation Day!

Well done Room 7 - you accepted another mission!
What an amazing afternoon of presentations. I was very impressed with the effort some of you put into your projects. It was great to see some studnts take up the saying 'thinking outside the box' and try to present their work in an interesting and informative way. Every student had at least 30 seconds to talk about their inspirational person. This person shows EXCELLENCE, PRIDE & SPIRIT - our school values. Most spoke for a lot longer. Katie even had her role model in class so she could interview him!

Te Aatakura and her movie made using an iPad.

Charlie's 3D poster.

Katie and her project JD.

Trinity's great mobile about Bob Marley.

Psyris talking about his role model - Mr Dufty!

Caleb's work on Richie McCaw.

Tineal's fantastic mobile on her Mum.

Linkin's great 3D poster with a scooter he built.

Hopefully doing this mini-project made some of you think 'out side the box' when it comes to how you can present your work.

Homework Presentation Week

This week you will be working on your presentation.

I am looking for the WOW! factor this week. Think beyond your homework book and use your imagination. How is it going to be different or better than anyone else? You will also have to talk about your hero for 30 seconds.

I am really looking forward to seeing your amazing work on Friday.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Teamwork

Today Room 7 learnt about teamwork and what it means to be a team member and a leader of a group. Here are some great quotes to remember when being a team member or working as a team. To often people believe that leadership = noise which means control - does this sound familiar? It was also amazing to see you all working faster when you couldn't talk!

It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit.

There is no "I" in "TEAMWORK".

Teamwork: Simply stated, it is less me and more we.

Who are we learning about?

Everyone has picked their role model. The next step is to develop 5 juicy questions about your person and 5 fact questions (birth date, placeof birth, etc). These must be shown to Mr Dufty on Friday. You should already be investigating and learning about your person.

Shakoa - My Koro Taina Puketapu
Kahlee - Valerie Adams
Madison - My koro Raymond
TK - Maria Tutaia
Trinity - Bob Marley
Joshua - Billy T James
Te Wai - Sir Charles Bennett
Katie - JD (Church Pastor)
Shelby - Irene Van Dyk
Tamihana - Israel Dagg
Latoya - Paula Griffen
Reign - Michael Jackson
Tajh - Martin Lawrence
Charlie - Ayrton Senna
Jordan - Sonny Bill Williams
Linkin - Brendon Smith
Regan - Chad Reed
Jireh - Dan Carter
Caleb - Richie McCaw
Tineal - My Mum

I hope you take on the challenge!!!

Just read this great quote and thought I should share it. Imagine if Thomas Edison gave up on his first try.

Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
