Who am I? Who are we?
Today we started to look at our next module of learning. This is a chance for the students in Room 7 to share who they are - to be proud of who they are. A chance for them to develop a understanding of who we are and share what their wishes for the future are. I want to hear YOUR VOICE!!!!
Over the next week students will be asking questions about their whakapapa and ancestry. The first question I have for Room 7 students is what culture or cultures do your family have links with?
Let me share some information about my whakapapa.
I have links to Scotland and England. My Mum's family are Scottish and my Dad's family are English. My Mum's family are MacErlich, from the major MacDonald clan and the MacErlich's come from Inverness. For years we thought my Dad's family were on the Welsh side of the Wales / England border. I also found out that the spelling of Dufty had changed. It used to be spelt Doughty with the 'gh' making the 'f' sound. Unfortunately there is very little know about my father family - they have a dark past!
Next week students will share their pepeha with the class. How they wish to present this is up to them. If they wish to place it online they will need to enter it in their Learning Journal. Follow the link on the top of this blog. Students can work on it at home and e-mail it to me. I'll place on the blog.
The follow framework for a pepeha has elements that are optional and students may wish to add or take out things that they do not believe are relevant to them. Remember that an iwi is similar to a clan.
Students may wish to also include images to support each part of their pepeha in their presentation.

Week Seven Homework
Homework
· Spelling and reading. Please make sure students are completing this every night. This week students also need to find the definitions of each word or write a sentence to show meaning. Well done Nagwai on moving up a spelling group!
Classroom Blog
· Please get your child to show you all the things that are on our class blog. There are lots great photos and student work. If you would like a photo that is on the blog please ask.
· I have been e-mailing parents with up-dates. If you have not received an e-mail from me please write your e-mail in your child’s logbook. Some of the e-mail addresses I gathered early in the year have not worked.
· I will start placing all homework (spelling words and classroom notices) on the blog. Only those with no home computer will get a printed copy.
· You can comment on the blog site. You will need a Google account to do this.
Swimming
· We still need help with transporting students. Please indicate in your child’s diary if you can help or there is an error with what day you can help.
· We had our first swimming session today. Well done Room 7 for your listening skills.
