Week 2 Term 3 2014

A great start to the term. Please feel free to come in at anytime and see what our wonderful class are doing.

Homework
Homework starts this week.

Homework will go home of Tuesday and is due make to Mr Dufty on Monday.

Spelling
Students get a list of words to learn at home. These words are based of ability and/or attitude. Work with your child to find out the best way they learn new words - writing them out, saying them out loud or finding the meaning using a dictionary. Please test three times and record on the sheet.

Reading
Students can read anything. I would prefer that they are reading something that interests them. It can be  a comic, novel, newspaper or their home reading from Mrs Kyle. All I ask is that they read out loud for at least five minutes. If they are making 10 mistakes in every fifty words then it is too hard for them. Make the time enjoyable, noise free and relaxed. A great way to have five minutes together!
Please write on the sheet the book and a positive comment. Also record down any words they didn't know.

Maths
They will have a sheet with problems. They need to work them out using the spare space on the page. No calculators please.

Mr Dufty will keep a record of who is and who is not completing their homework.

What is happening in Room 7.

Writing
This week we are working on writing our own myth. We will hopefully have them on the blogs by the end of the week. Please check out the student writing blog.

Reading
For reading this week we are focusing on being able to add detail when summarising a story. We are learning to write information we have read into our own words and make sure it the important details of who, what, where, when, why and how. I am expecting students to start adding extra detail into their work instead of the bare minimum.

Maths

We are looking at some interesting geometric art and enlargement. We will also be revisiting different stratgies for addition and subtraction. We have also been looking at how you use a calculator.

Room 7's Funky 'All About Me' posters.

Check out this amazing art world by student sin Room 7. They all had to choose seven things that represent them - favourites things, family, culture, etc. It had to be colourful and have no words.

Looking good in Room 7

A great day in Room 7. Watching the kids get stuck into their inquiry projects and start to think outside the box with their presentation ideas. This is Aliyah's amazing investigation on R2D2. Well done Aliyah you have set a very high standard!
