Well done on last weeks homework. What an amazing effort by everyone.
This weeks homework challenge is to share something about your culture.
What culture or cultures do your family have links with?
Share information about the culture or cultures you have links to.
These could be facts about the country, flag, customs and language. You might have more than one culture!
You must have at least ten amazing facts. Try at get facts that are specifically about your family. This could be information about the regional they are from, customs and traditions, important landmarks. Your name might even be a link to your ancestry.
As I have mentioned before I have Scottish and English ancestry. What have you found out?
I have connections to Scotland and England. My Mum’s family are Scottish and my Dad’s family are English. My Mum’s family are MacErlich, from the major MacDonald clan and the MacErlich’s come from Inverness. MacErlich was apparently kicked out of the MacDonald clan for stealing sheep!
For years we thought my Dad’s family were on the Welsh side of the Wales / England border. Then I also found out that the spelling of Dufty had changed. It used to be spelt Doughty with the ‘gh’ making the ‘f’ sound. Unfortunately there is very little known about my father's family – they have a dark past!
Mr Dufty's Rules for Research.
Scottish Flag |
- Don't use Google!! Mum, Dad and your family should be the first people you speak to. Every family has someone who is a family historian!
- Make your presentation fun BUT full of information!
- Don't copy what you find - write in your own words! This is stealing!!
- One page only - so PLAN before you put it in your book!!!!
- Get Mum or Dad to check that you have answered all the questions. Ask them for some help as they will know lots of stuff!
